Recurrence Analysis

This page graphically represents the number of text excerpts linked to each leaf of your Codification Tree. It also allows you to browse your results and quickly access the text excerpts associated with your leaves.

The Recurrence Analysis page has three main components, all of which are detailed below:

  • Codification Tree
  • Analysis Module
  • Charts

Codification Tree

Located on the left screen, this version of your Codification Tree displays only the roots and branches of your arborescence. It works as a menu that allows you to choose the elements that will be displayed in the Analysis Module and Charts sections. Clicking on an element of this tree will generate a chart that will illustrate the distribution of the text excerpts linked to each of the leaves of the selected branch.

The total sum of the codified text excerpts related to the leaves of each branch is displayed next to the branch’s label.

It will also show the sources of these text excerpts in the Analysis Module (under the Data section).

Analysis Module

The Analysis Module consists of two elements: data and variables.

Data

By default, this field lists the sources of all the text excerpts that have been codified within the leaves of the branch that you selected. This field can also be used to control the document sources that are used in the chart’s design. For example, subtracting one or several documents from this list will automatically affect the results displayed in the chart by removing all the text excerpts coming from these sources.

Selecting a new branch or adding back any removed documents will both reinitialize the chart and data field.

Variables

The variables allow you to limit the results shown in the chart by adding filters. You can set up to three variables.

Variables are set by defining three parameters:

  • a branch
  • a Boolean operator (=, <, >, ≤, ≥, !=, in, not in)
  • one or several leaves (the number of leaves that can be selected depends on the operator selected)

Once a variable is set, it will automatically affect the results shown in the chart.

Variables will remain active until they are removed or the page is reloaded.

Charts

The Charts section graphically represents the number of fragments linked to the leaves of the branch that you selected based on the variables and source documents that you specified.

The Charts section has three different sets of options, which are detailed below:

  • Display Mode
  • Chart
  • Advanced options
    • Add to Public Content – This option allows you to publish an image copy of the chart displayed in the chart area on your project’s public page.
    • Save – This option allows you to save an image copy of the chart displayed in the chart area in your project’s chart repertoire.
    • Export – This option allows you to download a version of the chart shown on screen in a PNG format.

Display Mode

  • Unweighted Fragments – this option individually counts each fragment associated with each leaf of the selected branch.
  • Weighted Fragments – this option counts the fragments associated with each leaf of the selected branch using their weight.

Chart

  • Pie Chart – this option displays the results as a pie chart.

  • Bar Chart – this option displays the results as a pie chart.

  • Table – this option displays the results as a table.

You can quickly access the fragments of a leaf by clicking on the segment of the chart (bar or pie) that represents it. It will take you to the codification report where you will be able to see all the related text excerpts.

Comments on Recurrence Analysis

  1. Dear all,
I would like to know if – in the qualitative analysis – there is the possibility to create a fourth level of analysis: Root, Branch, leaf and more.
    Thanks,
    lisa

    1. Hi Lisa,

Thank you for your comment. No, not at this time. We chose to limit LiGRE’s arborescence at three levels precisely because this model allows us to automate the generation of charts and tables. By making this choice, we have gained in ease to use but might have lost in capability. However, in our experience, we have found that most people can get by with this system easily by making small adjustments to their coding pattern. But we will consider your comment as a potential improvement for a future update.

Thank you for sharing your idea with us.

      Team LiGRE
